Peaceland's Side Session on Climate Disaster and Crisis Response Held During COP28 in Dubai

From November 30 to December 12, 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) was held in Dubai, UAE, with participation from over 120 countries. During COP28, Peaceland Foundation hosted a side session on Climate Disaster Relief and Crisis Response at the China Pavilion. The event brought together representatives from international organizations, rescue agencies, and various sectors to discuss strategies for addressing climate change.

Professor Qiang Zhang, Director of the Innovation Center for Risk Governance at Beijing Normal University, chaired the side event and presented on China's involvement of social forces in global climate disaster and crisis response. Ms. Aleksandra Sasa Gorisek from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies emphasized the importance of climate change prevention and adaptation, advocating for strengthened grassroots community development.

Ms. Lili Qiu, Founder of Peaceland Foundation, shared Peaceland's global natural disaster relief efforts, including responses to Cyclone Idai and the Pakistan floods. She called for greater public awareness of climate change and underscored the importance of community development. Mr. Xin Shi, President of Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation, shared field insights and emphasized the need for strengthening community resilience. Ms. Xuejia Wang, Global Brand Manager at Hello Tech, highlighted the vital role of green energy in addressing the climate crisis and demonstrated the use of their specialized equipment in emergency support. Additionally, a youth representative launched a global environmental art exhibition, showcasing the proactive role of young people in combating climate change.

During COP28, Peaceland Foundation visited Dubai Humanitarian, where CEO, Mr.  Giuseppe Saba provided an in-depth overview of the organization. He expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with China, highlighting the significance of Chinese contributions to global humanitarian aid, including technology and equipment manufacturing. Saba encouraged more organizations to join Dubai Humanitarian, working alongside representatives from the World Food Programme, UNHCR, UNICEF, and other international institutions to further humanitarian efforts.
