Peaceland Foundation Conducts Rescue and Disaster Response Training in Tanzania

Date: 12 November, 2023

To tackle Tanzania's challenges in disaster prevention and response, Peaceland Foundation deployed a team of experienced rescue instructors to Tanzania from November 4 to 12, 2023. The training focused on critical areas such as first aid, fire prevention, water rescue, mountain rescue, and drone applications, aimed at enhancing the emergency response capabilities of local police, firefighters, and departments involved with Kilimanjaro National Park.

In Dar es Salaam, the team delivered specialized training to volunteers from the Red Cross, fire department, meteorological services, and coast guard rescue units. In partnership with Sukos Kova Foundation, Peaceland organized a series of training sessions at the Oysterbay Police Station and the Tanzania Police School, focusing on first aid and water rescue. At Kilimanjaro National Park, Peaceland provided training and lectures on forest fire prevention and extinguishment, technical rope rescue, and drone technology, which are crucial for improving the parks rescue capabilities.

During a visit to Dar es Salaams largest fire station, Peaceland Foundation discovered that the citys three fire stations, staffed by over 300 firefighters, are equipped with only five fire trucks. This shortfall is inadequate for meeting the rescue needs of nearly six million residents, underscoring a significant gap in resources and equipment. Peaceland Foundation intends to collaborate with more organizations in the future to address these specific needs and enhance disaster and rescue capabilities in the region.
