Peaceland Foundation Launches Mine Clearance Project Donation Ceremony in Cambodia

On September 18, 2023, in Srey Snom District, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, Peaceland Foundation held a donation ceremony for its mine clearance project in collaboration with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC). The newly designated minefield spans 532 hectares, with plans to clear 60 hectares by the end of the year and complete the entire area by 2024, ensuring the land is safely returned to the local community.

Mr. Ean Sothea, CMAC Team Leader in Siem Reap Province, expressed gratitude for Peaceland's support, highlighting that it would significantly boost the morale of the demining team and expedite their progress. Mr. Hon Rithy, Governor of Srey Snom District, also expressed appreciation for Peacelands assistance and anticipated the rapid clearance of the minefield, which will benefit 1,921 households and 13,765 individuals in the area.

Mr. Wenzhi Liu, Director of Peacelands Cambodia Office, stated that Peaceland will continue to work with local communities to help Cambodia achieve its 2025 mine-free goal. Since the establishment of the Cambodia Office in March 2019, Peaceland has cleared 70 hectares of mine-affected land, removing 63 landmines and 99 unexploded ordnance, benefiting 247 households and 1,164 individuals in Tropang Thmor Village.

The donation included essential equipment such as tents and folding beds to improve the living conditions of the demining team, underscoring Peacelands commitment to boosting demining efficiency and team welfare. Additionally, Peaceland will offer living and food support to further aid the demining efforts and accelerate Cambodia's progress toward a mine-free future.
