Peaceland Foundation Participates in 2023 HNPW and Hosts Side Session

From April 24 to 28, 2023, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) held the in-person Humanitarian Networks & Partnerships Weeks (HNPW) in Geneva, Switzerland. The event brought together representatives from governments, businesses, UN agencies, NGOs, and academia to discuss and address challenges in humanitarian affairs.

Peaceland Foundation, in collaboration with the China Civil Network for International Humanitarian Assistance (CIHA), set up an exhibition booth at the conference to share the experiences and achievements of Chinese social organizations in humanitarian assistance. Additionally, Peaceland Foundation co-hosted a side event with CIHA, the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), and the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) under the theme “Engaging NGOs and the Private Sector in the Humanitarian System in Developing Countries”. The session highlighted China’s experience in responding to global humanitarian crises and explored pathways for international cooperation and development.

Ms. Lili Qiu, Founder of Peaceland Foundation, presented Peaceland’s experience in global humanitarian crisis response. Ms. Luo Wang, Director of Institute of International Trade and Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce, reviewed the evolution of China’s international humanitarian aid policies. IRDR Senior Scientific Advisor Professor Xu Tang called for enhanced cross-sector collaboration to address climate change.

During the international experience-sharing session, ICVA Acting Executive Director Mirela Shuteriqi, Mr. Siu Fung (Bruce) Wong from UNOCHA's Turkey-Syria Earthquake Response, Dr. Rizwan Naseer from Pakistan’s Punjab Emergency Management Department, and Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa from the Nepal Disaster Preparedness Network shared their insights on humanitarian aid. The participants actively discussed the challenges and solutions in humanitarian assistance.
