2021 Peaceland Foundation Annual Report| 9 countries, 12 humanitarian aid operations, 531,100 beneficiaries

Around 235 million people globally would need humanitarian assistance and protection, in 2021, said Mark Lowcock, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. This figure increases nearly 40 percent compared to 2020, which is highly related to the ongoing pandemic. Sanitaire crises, record levels of displacement, climate change, combined with new conflicts in otherwise peaceful areas, caused multiple challenges to the local communities, particularly for those vulnerable groups.

Peaceland Foundation Actions through 2021

On Jan 4-6, Peaceland Foundation sent a rescue team to Iga Glacier, Tibet to search for Wang Xiangjun, a well-known adventurer, in response to the request of Wang’s family.

On April 11, Peaceland Foundation and International Committee of the Red Cross East Asia Regional Office co-hosted the conference " We Are Not Alone - A Decade of the Syrian Crisis" in Beijing. This conference invited eminent experts in the humanitarian field from home and abroad to review the humanitarian needs and aid programs in Syria. It also served as a platform for all participants to discuss the core aspects of regional security in the Middle East.

On April 16, Peaceland Foundation donated 620 animal-proof lamps to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, which benefited more than 2,000 community members from four villages.

On May 12, Peaceland Foundation established its sub-office in Geneva. The core agenda for this office is to carry out information exchange and seek international cooperation in the humanitarian field, as well as in environmental protection.

On May 16, the project "Care for Chinese in Thailand[旅泰同胞关怀行动]" was launched by Peaceland Foundation, Firefly Public Welfare, Boundless Social Work and Zhuo Ming Disaster Information Service Center. This initiative brought together Chinese medical workers with rich experience fighting COVID19, Chinese volunteers with medical, psychological, public health and other related professional backgrounds and local Thai community volunteers. Together we provided online medical consultation and psychological care services to those Chinese who live in Thailand.

On May 21, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Yangbi County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Peaceland Foundation and China Social Relief Foundation immediately launched the "Yangbi Earthquake Emergency Relief Action [漾濞地震紧急救援行动] " and sent a disaster relief team to the front line. As of midnight on May 29, a total donation of 180,743.11 yuan by 131,068 individual donors were collected by Sina Micro Public Welfare, Tencent Public Welfare and Water Drop Public Welfare. With the financial support, our front-line working group were able to procure and distribute 237.75 tons of disaster relief materials (food, oil, mineral water, instant noodles, bread, etc.). The supplies benefited 27,534 people in 6,634 households from 17 villages in Cang Shanxi Town and Fu Heng Township.

On May 25-27, the Geneva office of Peaceland Foundation participated in the 24th International Meeting of Mine and Action Nationals Directors and United Nations Advisers hosted by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) online. Our representative introduced Peaceland Foundation’s Cambodia demining project as our lesson learned contribution to this meeting.

On June 20, staff from our Lebanon Refugee Project went to Alsa refugee camp at the Syrian border to distribute cash and essential supplies to refugee children.

On July 1, Peaceland Foundation got a donation from Indian artists Bharat Singh and Lijin siblings. A total of 300 oximeters, 450 protective masks and other aid supplies were sent to India through Peaceland Foundation to assist the community in New Delhi and Srinagar, India.

On July 15, Peaceland Foundation distributed 15,000 masks and 10,400 packets of cookies to Bagmati community and Tapatalinovik Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, benefiting 1,200 local people.

On July 20, Henan province was hit by devastating floods caused by extraordinary heavy rainfalls. Peaceland Foundation and China Social Relief Foundation launched a disaster response, sending rescue teams to the front line to carry out life rescue, material assistance, epidemic prevention and water purification work. On August 20, the rescue operation received 48,617,068.96 yuan from 1,273,198 individuals through multiple public donation platforms. Besides, we also received a direct 2 million yuan donation from the Henan flood Tencent emergency aid line and 1 million yuan from Beijing Water Drop Convergence Charity Foundation. Together with 119 professional rescuers, more than 1,000 volunteers, 42 rescue vehicles and 18 rescue boats, we were able to carry our immediate rescue and relief work in 72 townships, five schools and three hospitals/nursing homes in Zhengzhou (Gongyi, Xingyang, Xinmi and Dengfeng), Xinxiang (Weihui), Zhoukou, Xuchang, Anyang and Hebi, respectively. At the same time, Peaceland Foundation assisted the pandemic prevention training in 15 townships. Fifty sets of water purification equipment were installed to cover living areas for 256,100 people. Our resettlement team also distributed medical kits, food, hygiene products, mist machines, and generators to the camps, which benefited 124,800 households and 448,300 people.

On September 25, a symposium on "Przewalski's gazelle and other wildlife conservation" was held in Xining, Qinghai, hosted by the Qinghai Forestry and Grassland Bureau. The meeting reached a preliminary cooperation agenda on the further participation of Peaceland Foundation in the wildlife conservation work in Qinghai.

On October 2-7, Severe rainfall and flooding in North China's Shanxi Province have affected more than 1.76 million people in that region. On October 6, Peaceland Foundation and China Social Relief Foundation launched an emergency relief operation. We coordinated with local relief partners and sent our teams to conduct disaster assessments and distribute supplies. By 18:00 on November 26, Our foundation had received 151,709 donations of RMB 2,634,209.07 from Tencent Public Welfare, Alipay Public Welfare and Waterdrop Public Welfare. A total of 57 professional rescuers were deployed in Linfen City (Zhaizi Township, Yangtou Sheng Township, Wucheng Township, Chengnan Township, Jingmao Township, Dayang Township, Yandi Township, Dongzhang Township, Zhihe Township, Tumen Township, Gucheng Township, Fen Township, Dengzhuang Township, Xiangling Township, Jade Township), Huozhou City (Shizhuang Township, Retreating Sand Office, Li Cao Township, Xinqi Township) and Xiaoyi City (Daxiaobao Township) to carry out rescue and community settlement work which benefited more than 39, 200 people from 106 villages.

On November 18, Peaceland Foundation provided humanitarian aid in Kunduz and Pulkumri regions, Afghanistan. Understanding the current food shortage situation, we procured and distributed the first batch of 30 tons of food for more than 600 needy families.

On November 25, Peaceland Foundation donated 30,000 RMB to Cambodian mine victims' families and assisted them in establishing fish and chicken projects for sustainable development after mine clearance.

On December 9, a new wave of COVID19 outbroke in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. Peaceland Foundation, together with China Social Relief Foundation, launched an emergency response immediately in the front line. The main tasks included pandemic prevention, transfer the close contact and conduct disinfection. By December 31, we received a total of 140,865.44 yuan from individual donors throughTencent Public Welfare Platform. In the end, our teams were able to produce disinfection for 68,200 square meters, transfer 36 close contacts and operate 10 PCR tests.

In 2021, Peaceland Foundation has been committed itself in taking broad, fast action to help partners strengthen their pandemic response, increase disease relief capacity, and continuously contribute to sustain development in our operational countries. By the end of the year, we cooperated with civil society organisations in nine countries and conducted 12 humanitarian aid operations, which benefited more than 531,100 individuals.
