President and representatives of Peaceland Foundation participated in the 23rd International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers (NDM-UN23), hosted by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, which started on February 12th, 2020 for a week. This is the first time Peaceland Foundation was invited to attend this meeting as the only Chinese-led NGO in the international mine action field.

The 23rd Congress featured seven plenary sessions and 18 thematic side events on a wide range of topics, including the linkages between mine action and the environment, sustainable diversity in mine action, the use of technology and digital engagement in risk education, regional approaches to mine action, opportunities for mainstreaming mine action into development, and partnerships in humanitarian response. The richness of the conference topics provided participants with the opportunity to explore in-depth classic national mine action cases and best practices to collectively address the most pressing challenges facing the international mine action community today.

The UN's vision is to advocate for a world free from the threat of landmines. The United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Office for Refugees, the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, the United Nations Office for Human Rights, UN Women, the World Health Organization, and the World Bank have jointly promoted the United Nations Mine Action Strategy 2019-2023. The strategy aims to engage the UN at the global and country levels to ensure a response to context-specific needs and priorities while ensuring that mine action is integrated into the broader humanitarian, human rights, peace, and development response.
