Date: 24 May, 2024

From May 19 to 24, the China-ASEAN Sister Cities Hand-in-Hand Emergency Management Initiative, co-organized by Peaceland Foundation, was successfully conducted in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. As a key component of the Belt and Road International Cooperation Mechanism for Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management, this event aimed to enhance Cambodia’s emergency response capabilities and promote technical exchange and collaboration.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, the Siem Reap Provincial Government, and the Cambodia-China Friendship Association. The training drew over 80 participants, including government officials, police officers, gendarmes, military personnel, and students from Siem Reap, Kep, and Sihanoukville provinces. The Chinese expert team delivered in-depth theoretical and practical training on disaster data collection techniques, grassroots disaster risk reduction, and community response team development. Additionally, Peaceland Foundation donated rescue boats and equipment to Banteay Srei District to bolster local flood disaster response capabilities.

During the event, the Chinese delegation visited the Cambodia-China Friendship Association and the Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management to discuss strategies for enhancing urban disaster resilience.
