Peaceland Foundation Participates in the 69th UN Civil Society Conference

From May 9 to 10, 2024, the 69th United Nations Civil Society Conference (UNCSC) took place at the UN Office at Nairobi (UNON), Kenya, drawing 2,750 civil society organizations and over 3,600 representatives from around the world. Ms. Jing Wang, Director of Peaceland Tanzania Office, shared insights into China's civil society initiatives in international development aid and engaging in discussions on global challenges.

The conference, themed “Shaping a Future of Global and Sustainable Progress”, sought input for the upcoming “Summit of the Future” at the UN Headquarters in New York. Key topics included the “Pact for the Future” and the “Global Digital Compact”. The conference outcomes are anticipated to offer crucial guidance for advancing the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The UNCSC featured 37 workshops covering sustainable development, international peace and security, technological innovation, digital cooperation, and youth and future generations. Ms. Zahira Bangu, Director-General of the UN Office at Nairobi, emphasized the crucial role of civil society in shaping the future and urged all delegations to share their perspectives.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in his closing remarks, emphasized the need for international solutions to address the multiple crises facing the world and called for multilateralism to adapt to future challenges. He praised civil society’s contributions and urged continued collaboration with the UN to build a better world.
