International Mine Action Day: Peaceland Foundation Continues Support for Mine Clearance Operations in Cambodia

Date: 6 April, 2024

April 4th is International Mine Action Day. To mark this occasion, Peaceland Foundation, in collaboration with Sany Foundation, visited Cambodia to review ongoing mine clearance projects. On March 31, 2024, the delegation, accompanied by the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), toured a minefield in the Malai district of Banteay Meanchey Province, where a tragic incident in January resulted in 15 deaths and numerous injuries. Discussions centered on the use of engineering machinery for mine clearance, with plans to provide demining equipment by the end of the year to support CMAC’s efforts.

On April 5, Peaceland Foundation, alongside representatives from Chinese technology companies, donated a drone system to the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport for surveillance and disaster response, and conducted training sessions on drone usage. On April 6, the delegation visited the Cambodia-China Friendship Association, where they received a warm welcome from Chairman Aisenwo, who expressed gratitude for Peaceland Foundation's ongoing support for mine clearance efforts in Cambodia.

Clearing landmines is a crucial humanitarian and peacebuilding effort to remove the remnants of war, benefit the Cambodian people, and support economic development. Peaceland Foundation remains committed to advancing these efforts, aiming to help Cambodia achieve its goal of being landmine-free by 2025, ensuring public safety, and contributing to global security initiatives.
